FRANK'S VIRTUOSITY WAS NOT FULLY APPRECIATED IN THE 70'S. I, PERSONALLY FIND THAT FRANK'S "MUSICIANSHIP" WAS/IS VERY MUCH UNDERRATED. HIS SONGS ARE RHYTHMICALLY AND MELODICALLY VERY WELL COMPOSED. IN FACT, I OFTEN FIND MYSELF (BEING A GUITARIST) VERY INTRIGUED BY "HOW" HE FORMS HIS MELODIES. STRANGE DREAMS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS. ALSO, FRANK'S SOLOS - ALTHOUGH TASTEFUL - ARE NOT MY FAVORITE PARTS IN HIS SONGS, RATHER , I LISTEN TO HIS COMPOSITIONS AS COMPLEX MUSICAL IDEAS THAT FUSE TO PRODUCE "GREAT" MUSIC. I DON'T LIKE TO COMPARE GUITARIST BECAUSE I FEEL THAT IT DILUTES NOT ONLY THEIR CREDABILITY BUT ALSO UNDERMINES "WHAT" A PARTICULAR GUITARIST HAS TO "OFFER". I DO HOWEVER FEEL THAT FRANK'S MUSIC HAS BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR IN MY PURSUIT AS A GUITARIST TO BEING THE BEST THAT I CAN BE. I LISTEN TO MANY STYLES AND GUITARISTS, FRANK IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ONES IN AT LEAST 2 STYLES! I KNOW FRANK PERSONNALLY. I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF MEETING HIM IN 1989 WHILE HE WAS BUILDING A STUDIO IN MONTREAL. I CAN RELATE MY EXPERIENCES WITH HIM, TO THOSE OF YOU WHO WONDER WHAT TYPE OF INDIVIDUAL HE IS. FIRSTLY, I CAN TELL YOU THAT HE IS ONE OF THE MOST INTELLIGENT PEOPLE THAT I KNOW. FRANK IS EXTREMELY INTUITIVE AND HIGHLY MOTIVATED. HIS KNOWLEDGE SPANS MANY DISCIPLINES. IN GENERAL HE MASTERS ENDEVORS IN VERY LITTLE TIME. I PERSONNALY CONSIDER HIM TO BE OF GENIUS CALIBER, ALTHOUGH HE MAY NOT AGREE. I HAVE CONVERSED WITH PHD'S OF VARIOUS DISCIPLINES, I HAVE RARELY BEEN AS IMPRESSED AS I AM WITH FRANKS' BASE OF KNOWLEDGE. THESE THINGS ASIDE, FRANK'S GREATEST QUALITY IS IN THE FRIENDSHIP HE OFFERS. A GENUINELY TRUE ONE. HE OFFERS HEART-FELT ADVISE AND GUIDANCE. I SEE FRANK IN TWO CAPACITIES TODAY: A GREAT MUSICIAN, AND ONE OF MY TRUEST FRIENDS. FRANK IS TEN YEARS OLDER THAN I AM. WE SHARE AN IMPRESSIVELY SIMILAR PAST AND PRESENT. I FEEL FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIM AS A FRIEND AND HOPE THAT OTHERS WILL ALSO BENEFIT FROM HAVING WHAT I HAVE FOUND: A FRIEND WHO CARES AND IS THERE WHEN YOU NEED HIM. YOUR FRIEND GREG.

I think it was about 1977 when I 1st got turned on to Frank and Mahogany Rush..a friend brought a small black tape (Live) to school and said "you wanna hear the greatest guitarist alive" I did and the rest is history..I 1st saw Frank in Columbus Ga. with Mothers Finest at Columbus auditorium..I only remember two things..1st Frank blew me away as I stood there with my mouth open and the other is that I could see straight through the lead singer (girl) of Mothers Finest Black shirt..I used to think it was cliche to say that someones music could make you cry but Frank ,...I'm 36 now and I cry when you wail on that guitar..rock on..and hurry up with that album./....

I liked Mahogany Rush's original material better than the Hendrix covers. I have alot of Hendrix albums. Everyone best at being themselves...I like Frank's taste in guitars (SG) You have a cool site.

Just watching some live videos of Frank and had to do a search on the Web. Saw him once at the Playhouse(1500 cap.) in Winnipeg with Moxy. My ears are still bleeding!!! Amazing!! It's a wonder I can still hear. I always wondered if he is still putting out any recordings or if anyone has any live tapes/videos to trade? Will check out the rest of the site.

I'm still playing his style of music after 30 years. One of the great legends and most under-rated artist.

Hi everybody ! First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to this great page !!! I "suffered" years and years, because there was absolutely no chance to get or hear anything else about Frank Marino, than by his records. And to get the records was hard enough. Sometimes in the "end-70ies" an Austrian radio-station (the only one we had that time) played I´m a king bee, and it blew me away. So, the "friendship" started ! Keep on doing it !

Actually, I haven't heard any of his stuff (and if I remember right - AWESOME STUFF!!!) for many many moons now. If Frank or anyone else will take the time - please give me the name of the album that I should get first that covers the most diverse selections of your\\his playing. The last time I heard an album from Mahogany Rush was probably around 1976. Please let me know what you\\you think. Thanks !

It's been almost twenty years since I was turned on to Franks music. It was around 1979, right out of high school. I was drumming for this local band,Havana, and one night during rehearsal, one of our guitarists started playing this particular riff, and we all followed him in.It was POWERFUL. About 30 bars into the tune, I just stopped. I needed to know what the tune was called. He replied "Land of 1000 nights." I asked if it was one of HIS tunes. He just smiled and said "nope,Frank Marino." He actually had the tape with him, and when he cued it up and punched "play," I was an immediate fan. We added the tune to our set, and play it, occasionally, to this day. I eventually bought the tape, and remember listening through headphones and thinking," one of the most awesome, and probably diffucult, mixes I had ever heard. I had thought I'd heard everything, until I came across a copy the live album, almost dropped my load, so to speak. To this day, the music sounds fresh, and in my opinion, still stands up tall. Keep playing Frank, and god bless you for the musical trip. John Canaday JCan35570@aol.com

I saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush in 1979 in Oakland Coliseumopening for Ted Nugent, AC/DC, and Aerosmith Frank Marino was obviously the REAL musician on that day!!! He's a guitar great and he seems down to earth. I recently saw UFO with Micheal Schenker and Micheal walked off stage mid set. One great thing about Frank 9besides the music) is his humble attitude.

When I first bought a Mahogany Rush album it was in 1978. I got the Live album and proceeded to drive everyone in the house crazy because I played it over and over and over. Usually at a volume that caused the ceiling plaster to rain down. Now 21 years later, I have a much larger collection and a much better stereo. The wife and the neighbors raise hell, but screw 'em. The music you have made is like no other. I hope the band in heaven can play Purple Haze even half as good as you. If I was stranded on a desert island, I would be content if I had ANY of your music there with me. You probably grow tired of hearing all the praise all the time. Inside you no doubt consider yourself just a regular guy with a particular talent. Well let me tell you that you have provided the soundtrack for countless thousands of lives over the years. You certainly have been my soundtrack. That makes you something special. You have had real impact my friend. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that great music. NOW GET YOUR ASS ON LINE AT SOME TIME OTHER THAN MIDNIGHT EST so that us 9 to 5'ers can meet (sic) you face to face. I promise not to slobber, drool, or shout "Hiel Frank". Oh well ... maybe just a little. See you in MarinoVille. Godspeed to you and all yours.

I was first introduced to Franks music in jr. high in the seventys. Saw him at the second concert I ever saw in 77 at te summer jam in Louisville, Ky with Ted Nugent. Have been influenced in my playing in several ways, mostly his unique tone. He still rates in my top 5 players of all time. Keep up the great work. MIKE

I send Greetings from the land of 60 below WOW I just stumbled on this site while listening to Frank jammin with Bryan Lee and Kenny Wayne...I've been a fan since the 70's.....I saw Frank play in Mobile back then and to this day has been THE best concert I've ever been to....Trower is my next best....Frank opened up for of all bands, "Styx" and my buddy and I split when they came out.....We'd seen a master play and that was enough...... Way to go Frank- I hope your fortunes in life overflow for you and your family.............I was wondering what Paul and Jim were up to since the old days...... I picked THE POWER OF ROCK AND ROLL as my favorite but only because when I heard YOUNG MAN for the first time I was a soldier in the army then when it was released and it really sunk in of what I felt was Frank's music and style wasall about at the time. I regularly listen to all of his work that is presently available on CD. (my brother got all my records when I moved to Alaska) I'm waiting for all of Frank and Mahogany Rush as it becomes available on CD.... WORLD ANTHEM is the first album I bought and TRY FOR FREEDOM is the most inspiring compositions of Frank's in my mind. Thanx Frank..........

Hey Frank, just wanted to say thanks for all the great music over the years, both live, and studio. The two guitar players I have the utmost respect for, out of my favorites, are you and Michael Schenker. The two of you combine emotion, with speed(pure ripping),in a way few can compare to!!I hope you decide not to give up on this business anytime soon, and give everyone the pleasure of being able to see you live in the states, once again!!!Thank you,and hope to see you soon!!!

I have listening to Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush for years and he is truely one of my favorite guitarist. I am a guitarist myself. I kind of put the guitar down for a few years and started a computer business, but I decided to use this talent that God has given me and started playing again. I caught the band in Detroit at Harpos Theatre years ago and was blown away!!! Glad to see you Frank back into the mainstream!!! Keep rockin my friend. Peace

I first heard Frank Marino back in 1980 by a cousin of mine. As soon as I heard his playing I was turned on by his Style. I had never heard a Guitarest that smooth. I remember seeing Frank in Corpus Christi Tx at The Yellow Rose. I took some friends along and they were amazed by his playing. Full Circle was the last LP I bought because I thought Frank had called it quits. Now since I know Frank has other CD's out, you can restasure I will buy them all. I have to buy them throught the internet, are they going to be sold here in the States. Frank keep it up, don't give up. Sooner or later God will grant you your dream. Caesar Cantu
